Day 1: Arrival in La Paz
Welcome to Bolivia! Upon arrival at El Alto International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in La Paz. Located at over 3,500 meters altitude, La Paz is a city of striking contrasts, blending modern urban life with indigenous traditions. Spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude. In the evening, enjoy a gentle walk through the lively city center, sampling traditional dishes like salteñas (Bolivian empanadas) and sipping api, a warm corn drink. Overnight stay in La Paz.
Day 2: La Paz City Tour & Moon Valley
After breakfast, embark on a half-day city tour. Explore Plaza Murillo, where Bolivia’s government buildings and cathedral stand, and walk the cobbled streets of the historic district. Visit the fascinating Witches’ Market to browse local herbs, amulets, and crafts, a unique insight into Bolivia’s indigenous spiritual culture. Ride the cable cars for panoramic views of the city’s mountainous surroundings. In the afternoon, head to Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna), a surreal landscape of eroded clay formations resembling a lunar surface. Return to La Paz for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: La Paz – Tiwanaku Ruins – La Paz
Today, take a day trip to the ancient archaeological site of Tiwanaku, located 72 km from La Paz. Tiwanaku was the center of a pre-Incan civilization that thrived for centuries. Explore monumental structures such as the Akapana Pyramid, the Gateway of the Sun, and the Kalasasaya Temple, marveling at intricate stone carvings and impressive engineering. Return to La Paz in the evening and relax at your hotel.
Day 4: La Paz – Uyuni – Colchani
Fly from La Paz to Uyuni, gateway to the famous Uyuni Salt Flats (Salar de Uyuni). Upon arrival, visit Colchani village to see traditional salt extraction methods. Journey into the vast white salt flats, where the landscape seems infinite. Visit Incahuasi Island, home to giant cacti and panoramic views. Experience the magical sunset as the salt flats glow with brilliant colors. Spend the night in a unique salt hotel.
Day 5: Uyuni – Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve
After breakfast, depart for a full-day tour into the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, a protected area of stunning high-altitude landscapes. Visit the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), famous for its pink flamingos, and the Green Lagoon (Laguna Verde), with its striking turquoise waters at the foot of Licancabur Volcano. Explore the geysers and bubbling mud pools of Sol de Mañana. Cross the Siloli Desert with its remarkable rock formations like the “Tree of Stone.” Overnight at a desert lodge within the reserve.
Day 6: Eduardo Avaroa – Uyuni
Return journey to Uyuni, stopping at various natural sights along the way. Enjoy the vast desert landscapes and watch for wildlife such as llamas and vicuñas. Arrive in Uyuni for a restful evening at your hotel.
Day 7: Uyuni – Potosí
Travel to Potosí by road or bus. Once a booming mining town and one of the richest cities in the world during the Spanish colonial era, Potosí is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with well-preserved colonial architecture. Take a walking tour around the city, visiting the main plaza and notable churches. In the afternoon, visit the Casa de la Moneda (Mint House), a fascinating museum showcasing the history of silver mining and coin production. Overnight stay in Potosí.
Day 8: Potosí – Sucre
After breakfast, depart for Sucre, Bolivia’s constitutional capital known as the White City for its pristine white buildings. Sucre offers a more relaxed atmosphere with charming plazas, museums, and colonial architecture. Enjoy a guided city tour visiting Plaza 25 de Mayo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and San Felipe Neri Monastery, which offers panoramic views from its rooftop. Discover local markets and learn about indigenous crafts. Overnight in Sucre.
Day 9: Sucre – Tarabuco Market (Sunday only) – Sucre
If your tour falls on a Sunday, take a half-day excursion to Tarabuco Market, a traditional indigenous market located about an hour from Sucre. Here, you can observe locals dressed in traditional attire selling textiles, pottery, and handmade goods. Engage with artisans and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Return to Sucre for a relaxing afternoon and overnight stay.
Day 10: Sucre – Cochabamba
Travel to Cochabamba, known as the City of Eternal Spring due to its mild climate. Explore the city’s main square, Plaza 14 de Septiembre, and visit the Cristo de la Concordia statue, one of the tallest statues of Christ in the world, offering spectacular views. Enjoy local cuisine like pique macho or chicharrón at a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Cochabamba.
Day 11: Cochabamba – La Paz
Fly back to La Paz. Depending on your arrival time, visit any last-minute attractions or markets for souvenirs. Enjoy a farewell dinner featuring Bolivian specialties while reflecting on your journey. Overnight stay in La Paz.
Day 12: Departure from La Paz
After breakfast, transfer to El Alto International Airport for your onward flight. Depart Bolivia with unforgettable memories of its diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality.
