Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our Kashiyatra Tours representative. After a comfortable transfer to your hotel, take some time to rest and refresh. Later in the afternoon, embark on an introductory city tour of Addis Ababa. Visit the National Museum, home to the famous fossil “Lucy,” and learn about Ethiopia’s place in human history. Continue to the Holy Trinity Cathedral, a masterpiece of Ethiopian Orthodox architecture, and stroll through the bustling Merkato, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets. End the day at Mount Entoto for panoramic city views before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar
After breakfast, fly to Bahir Dar, a scenic town along the shores of Lake Tana. Upon arrival, head to your hotel and then start your exploration with a boat trip on Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. Visit ancient island monasteries such as Ura Kidane Mehret, famous for its colorful frescoes and historic manuscripts. In the afternoon, drive to the Blue Nile Falls, locally known as “Tis Issat” or “The Smoking Water,” and enjoy the stunning natural scenery. Return to Bahir Dar in the evening for a relaxed dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Bahir Dar – Gondar
Today, travel by road to Gondar, Ethiopia’s “Camelot,” a city known for its castles and churches. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel before visiting the Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with 17th-century castles and palaces built by Emperor Fasilides and his successors. Next, explore the Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its stunning ceiling painted with angels’ faces. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk through the city’s charming streets before settling in for the night. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 4: Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park – Gondar
After an early breakfast, set out on a day trip to the Simien Mountains National Park, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, and unique wildlife such as the gelada baboon, the park offers some of Ethiopia’s most breathtaking landscapes. Enjoy guided walks through the park, taking in scenic viewpoints like Sankaber. Have a picnic lunch amidst nature before returning to Gondar in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 5: Gondar – Lalibela
In the morning, fly to Lalibela, Ethiopia’s most iconic pilgrimage site, renowned for its 12th-century rock-hewn churches carved into the mountains. After checking in, begin your tour with the northern cluster of churches, including the famous Bet Medhane Alem, the world’s largest monolithic church, and Bet Maryam, known for its beautiful interior. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the construction and spiritual significance of each site. In the evening, witness the serene atmosphere of Lalibela as the sun sets over the surrounding hills. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 6: Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Departure
After breakfast, explore the remaining churches in the southern cluster, including the remarkable Bet Giyorgis, shaped like a perfect cross and often considered the symbol of Lalibela. Enjoy a final stroll through the town, perhaps stopping at a local coffee shop to savor Ethiopia’s world-famous coffee one last time. Later, fly back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a farewell dinner with cultural music and dance performances before your transfer to Bole International Airport for your onward journey.
